Privacy Policy
In short: ScanMe needs no account. What you send passes through a temporary relay so it can reach your other device, using a random session key created for each visit. We do not ask for your name or email.
1. Who we are
ScanMe (the website scan-me.cc and the ScanMe Android app) is a product of Grey Matter Ventures (greymatter.com.pk). In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Grey Matter Ventures.
2. How ScanMe works
When you open scan-me.cc, the page creates a unique QR code. You scan it with the ScanMe app to pair your browser and phone. You can then send text, links and files between them in either direction.
3. Information we handle
- Content you transfer. Text, links and files you choose to send. They are relayed through Firebase, a Google service, to your paired device and are not stored permanently.
- Session key. A random key created for each visit, used only to connect your browser and phone.
- Technical data. Information such as IP address, browser and device type, and timestamps, which our hosting and Firebase may log for operation, security and abuse prevention.
- App permissions. The Android app may ask for camera access to scan the QR code (the camera image is processed on your device) and for access to the photos and files you choose to send or save. You can turn these permissions on or off at any time in your device settings.
- What we do not ask for. ScanMe has no sign-up. We do not ask you for a name, email address or password.
4. How we use information
We use it to pair your devices, deliver what you send, keep the service secure, prevent abuse, fix problems and improve ScanMe. We do not sell your personal data.
5. How long we keep it
Transfers are relayed temporarily and are not kept permanently. We keep information only as long as needed to provide the service, keep it secure, and meet legal obligations. Usage data is generally kept for a shorter period.
6. Third-party services
- Google Firebase relays transfers between your devices and may process technical data.
- Google Play distributes the Android app under its own privacy policy.
- Google AdSense may show ads on the website. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads. See how Google uses data from ads and manage your choices in Google Ads Settings.
7. Cookies and local storage
The website stores your light or dark mode choice in your browser so it can remember it. Advertising cookies are set by Google, as described above, not by us.
8. Security
We use HTTPS and a unique random session key for every visit. No online service is completely secure, so avoid sending highly sensitive files unless you are comfortable with that.
9. Your choices
- Close the page or disconnect in the app to end a session.
- Uninstall the app at any time to remove its local data from your phone.
- Use Google Ads Settings to control personalised ads.
- Contact us with any privacy question or request, including a request to delete data connected to you.
10. Children
ScanMe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Where data is processed
Firebase and other Google services may process data on servers outside your country.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
